NFL Professional Football League
(National Football League, NFL for short) refers to the name after the merger of the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).
The American Professional Football League ranks first among the four major professional sports leagues in North America and is also the largest professional football league in the world. The league was first established in May 1920 under the name of the American Professional Football Association, and later changed its name to the National Football League on January 28, 1922. The NFL professional football league consists of 32 teams from different regions and cities in the United States, divided into two federations: the American Football Confederation (AFC) and the National Football Confederation (NFC). Each league consists of four divisions, east, west, north, south, and each division has four teams and affiliated players.
The annual competition is divided into three periods: Preseason, Regular Season and Playoff. There are four weeks in the preseason. As a warm-up for the regular season, each team will only play 16 games during the regular season, which will increase to 17 games in 2021.
In 2007, the number of British people watching NFL TV broadcasts more than doubled. By 2018, the latest official NFL statistics show that the number of NFL fans in the UK reached 14 million.
